“Marshall Main Street Board approves Second Saturday vendor guidelines…”

The City of Marshall Main Street Advisory Board is excited to unveil plans for the 2016 Second Saturday vendor season. The event will make its 2016 debut on March 12th and will run monthly through November. Second Saturday’s signature event the annual Backroads Bunch of East Texas’ cruise night will return, along with great live entertainment presented by Marshall, Texas the Birthplace of Boogie Woogie on Telegraph Stage. “The Main Street program wanted to focus its efforts on improving the quality of vendors for the 2016 season,” said Sarah O’Brien, Tourism, Promotions & Main Street Director for the City of Marshall.  The Main Street Advisory Board approved new vendor rules and regulations at its monthly board meeting on February 9th.

The new guidelines are designed to attract quality vendors, that don’t compete with our existing downtown merchants. “Our long term goal is to attract the type of vendors that can be nurtured into Brick and Mortar retailers, like the Funky Junkers, who now call Blissmoor Valley Ranch Company Store home.” said O’Brien. Downtown Marshall is home to a variety of fantastic restaurants, but the Main Street Advisory Board is looking to expand our retail base and hopes Second Saturday can be the stepping stone to do so. “Main Street Marshall is focused on improving the business mix downtown, with the pending opening of the General Store, and renovations to the Paramount Theater underway, we have a lot going on downtown right now. We really want to keep the momentum going and try to attract additional retailers,” said O’Brien.

Anyone wishing to participate as a vendor in Marshall Main Street’s Second Saturday event must register through the Main Street Office. There is a $15 annual application fee but no monthly participation fee. The Main Street office will select vendors that complement the existing downtown businesses and don’t compete with our existing restaurants. Non-profits are allowed to set up and sell food once per year. Vendor placement will be coordinated through the Main Street Office with the help up volunteers. Priority placement will be given to merchant recommendations.
Marshall Main Street will also be working to attract more patrons downtown during the Second Saturday vendor event. “We have placed an ad with the Texas Forest Trail Region and will be doing some social media advertising as well,” said O’Brien. Vendors will be located along N. Washington Avenue from 9 am. to 3 p.m. “The structure that these new guidelines place on the event will allow us to better market the event and attract more residents and guest from our region to enjoy the various arts, crafts, and handmade goods that will be available during Second Saturday,” said O’Brien. Mark your calendars to come enjoy downtown the Second Saturday of every month.
